Overview

abstract

  • The use of growth factors, such as bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs), is showing great promise in orthopaedic surgery. The BMPs, which are osteoinductive, have been used successfully in spine fusion and fracture healing. This article describes the development and production of the recombinant BMPs and summarizes their use in preclinical trials.
