Overview

abstract

  • UNLABELLED: Atypical mycobacterium is the source of a recent outbreak of cosmetic surgery infections [1]. Such an infection is difficult to eradicate and presents unique challenges in its management after esthetic surgery. Delays in appropriate treatment are frequent because of difficulty in diagnosis and unfamiliarity with this type of infection. We present cases of our management of Mycobacterial abscessus abdominoplasty infections following cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic. Rapid initial recognition of this problem and the frequent need for surgical treatment of atypical mycobacterium abdominoplasty infection may aid in the treatment of this rare but increasingly encountered infection.
