Editorial Commentary: Internet Resources for Platelet-Rich Plasma: An Electronic Repository of "Alternative Facts"?
Editorial Article
Overview
abstract
Information about platelet-rich plasma available on the Internet is of poor quality, low accuracy, and difficult to read. But we can do better. Before consultation or as part of the informed consent process, surgeons can direct patients to prescreened, commercial-free information published in a peer-reviewed manner by authoritative third-party specialty societies. By establishing the baseline level of knowledge before a deeper discussion about the individual patient's condition, surgeons can effectively engage with a better-informed patient and enjoy a more effective physician-patient encounter.
