abstract
Retroviral DNA induces the production of interferons. A new study by Yoh et al. showed that the host factor 'PQBP1' primes immune-recognition of retroviral DNA by recruiting the cytosolic DNA scavenger 'cGAS' to the HIV-1 capsid. Their findings support the importance of innate immune sensing in HIV-1 infection.
